Six mechanisms, one sentence each

Interactive illustrations of how the lab's tools and systems work. Each figure teaches one sentence, keeps its state in the address so a view can be linked, and reads completely without motion. The example text is invented and every figure says so. The only recorded figures are the Jev reading.

Pull a sentence out from under the answer

If a fact survives deleting its source sentence, the answer did not depend on that sentence.

An answer rests on a passage. Pull the sentence that holds the fact, or an unrelated one as a control, and read what each outcome means.

    Three sheets that should stack

A page can tell a person one price and a crawler another.

The same invented product page read from its structured data, its visible text and its Shopify JSON, with one field brushed across all three.

A highlighter that paints only what is on the page

A citation is a verbatim range, or it is not one.

A claim split into clauses and laid over an invented page, character by character, with a byte ruler under the text and the offset of every verbatim range.

Teacher stamps, student copies, a held-out deck grades the copy

Agreement with the judge, not understanding.

How a small classifier was trained on a judge's labels and graded on labels it had not seen, with the recorded agreement in two conditions and the zero-shot baseline beside it.

    Eight lanes, one shard list

A shard is the unit you can afford to lose.

A seeded replay of shards placed across eight GPU lanes by memory budget. Switch a lane off and each shard moves to another lane or stays queued.

The answer lights only the quoted span

A retrieved page is not evidence until the answer's words are a span of it.

A retrieved page, an answer in two clauses, and a check that lights a clause only where it is a verbatim span of the page.

How to read these

  • Illustration means invented. The passages, pages, products and answers were written for the figures. Three figures (Fact Split, Span, span-verified retrieval) run their invented pages through the same code the tools run, so the stamps and verdicts on them are the tools' own.
  • The only figures are recorded ones. The distillation explainer shows the Jev reading from the home ledger, with its date and denominator. No other number on these pages is a measurement, and the gpur replay is labeled as a seeded replay.
  • Keyboard first. Every control is a native input: Tab reaches it, arrow keys change it. Clicking the drawing does the same thing with a mouse.
  • Motion only when state changes. A pulled sentence slides, a brushed row moves, a shard changes lane. Nothing moves on its own, and under a reduced-motion setting nothing moves at all. The figures are complete as still drawings.
  • Each page states its method and limits, what it does not show, and a citation. Questions: contact OptiVis.
